Questions to Ask Yourself and Your Prospective
Residencies
ASK YOURSELF
- What are my goals for my training in reproductive health?
- Do I want to be an abortion provider?
- Will my work with MSFC be viewed as a positive or negative given my
choice of specialty?
ASK THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM DIRECTOR
- If I want to be trained to provide abortions, will that be possible
here?
- If so, will it be a routine part of my training, or will it be an
elective?
- If it is an elective, will you be able to help me find a training
site?
- Are there any restrictions on where I can do electives?
- Will my malpractice insurance cover me for these electives?
ASK THE CLINICAL FACULTY AND THE CURRENT RESIDENTS
- What is the main patient population you work with here?
- If you see a woman with an unintended pregnancy, what do you tell
her?
- What do you see as this program’s greatest strengths and its
greatest weaknesses?
