Questions to Ask Yourself and Your Prospective Residencies

ASK YOURSELF

  • What are my goals for my training in reproductive health?
  • Do I want to be an abortion provider?
  • Will my work with MSFC be viewed as a positive or negative given my choice of specialty?

ASK THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM DIRECTOR

  • If I want to be trained to provide abortions, will that be possible here?
  • If so, will it be a routine part of my training, or will it be an elective?
  • If it is an elective, will you be able to help me find a training site?
  • Are there any restrictions on where I can do electives?
  • Will my malpractice insurance cover me for these electives?

ASK THE CLINICAL FACULTY AND THE CURRENT RESIDENTS

  • What is the main patient population you work with here?
  • If you see a woman with an unintended pregnancy, what do you tell her?
  • What do you see as this program’s greatest strengths and its greatest weaknesses?
